“A YEAR’S GONE BY” 2015 EP
A (few) Year’s Gone By…
Originally released in 2015, A Year’s Gone By is a 7-track EP by Stephen Grady, produced by long time friend, musician/songwriter, Dan Parsons. Opting for a natural acoustics rather than the recording studio; Grady hired the Kallista Mechanics House in the foothills of the Dandenong ranges, Victoria, where the pair bunkered down for two weeks with instruments, Dan’s Tascam tape machine, DIY sound proof dividers, sleeping bags, the Seinfeld DVD set and a case of red wine. The recording didn’t go exactly to plan, often interrupted by community Yoga classes, 300 Cockatoos nearby, and the pair falling victim to the sudden drop in temperature, and as a result Grady was too unwell to continue singing. Originally planned to be a full length album, the 7 tracks recorded showcases the unique musical bond between Grady & Parsons, which stretches back to their first collaboration at University in Brisbane.
“Call me biased, but I feel these songs are some of Steve's finest yet, and it's all to do with him embracing what's always made his music unique- himself.” Dan Parsons
All instruments were played by Grady and Parsons, with additional piano by Cameron Milford. ‘A Year’s Gone By’ was mixed by Tristan Hoogland, artwork by Camden O’Shane. Pictures from the recording below:
